Robokop / Artist Profile / New Releases

by JM on December 10, 2010

Robokop is a 25 year old Dubstep / Hiphop Producer from the Netherlands. His bass lines are nice and juicy similar to that of “Nit Grit” and his beats undeniably make you want to bob your head and sway to the music. I reached out to him the other day to find out his story so I can share it with you fine people…..

His Fascination for different styles of music started when he was 6 years old, listening to rock n roll, reggae and classic hip hop songs.  At the age of 12 he started beatboxing under the name Yoshi J.and developed an extreme love for breakbeat, drum n bass, and  hip hop.  Influenced by the east coast hip hop scene, soul/jazz, and sampled beats, he started making hip hop beats and started writing some of his own songs. At the beginning of 2009 he discovered the dubstep scene and fell for the freedom the genre gave him.  His main goal is to make tracks as epic and wide as possible, combining several different genres of music while adding his own twist. Like ancient warriors in a huge battle!

He had several releases in 2010 and his forthcoming releases include the Rise Again ep out December 13 through “MWM recordings” and the Bassman ep in January through “S.C.U.M.” which will also include the track “dancefloor”. The track, Bassman has been featured on bbc 1 xtra by Raskwame.  Both releases will be available through all major online download sites.

Robokop’s goal with these releases is to display his developing style and let you see his vision of epicness meets catchy melodies with sharp and booming bass lines.  He wants people to shake on the dance floor and go nuts.  He also  tried a lot of 16 bit sounds combined with dark choirs like on the track “power” and Asian strings with the track “BYEBYE.”  He drew much of his musical inspiration for these releases from going to several different festivals and listening to the music stylings of producers like Flux, Emalkay, Doctor P, Fabian and several others.

In my opinion, these tracks are straight up fire and some of his best work yet. Preview the tunes here:
