The Tipper Quixotic Experience | Cirque de L’amour | Austin, Texas

time February 4th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , ,

Dave Tipper is one of the most talented producers alive. He has helped pioneer many genres of music including the Break and Glitch Hop sound. He has set the standard of recording in 5.1 surround sound and has released a collection of music that most would consider divine in nature.

I’ve had to luxury of seeing many live performances by him over the years. There’s two distinct sides to Tippers music. There’s the uptempo glitch-hop bass sets that will get you moving and then there’s the organic downtempo sound journey. I can say that his downtempo set at Symbiosis 2012 was the most unique and beautiful pieces of auditory sound that I’ve ever experienced in my life. I felt as if I was a small child rediscovering sound.

This February in Austin, Texas, Dave Tipper will be doing a special one time performance with the theatrics group, Quixotic. They are an artist collective comprised of aerial acrobatics, dancer, film makers, fashionistas, musicians, and visual artist. I had the pleasure of seeing them at Wakarusa and was totally blown away by the amount of production that goes into their show.

The Tipper Quixotic Experience is what they are calling it and assure you that it’s something you won’t want to miss. Once I saw the announcement of the show I immediately looked up plane tickets to Austin, Texas and bought a flight.

It is rumored that Tipper will also be moving more towards the live downtempo sets in 2013. There is no confirmation of this but you better believe that I’m praying with all my heart to get at least half set of downtempo. The event is a post Valentines Day called Cirque de L’amour. The events name translates to Circus of Love. I can’t tell you enough how excited I am to return to Austin, where I left a big piece of heart. It only seems like the proper time to revisit one of the most amazing cities in the States.

If you’re a follower of Tipper, enjoy theatrical performance, and never been to Austin, Texas I highly recommend considering flying or driving to this event. Many of you might have a strong opinion of Texas but I can create an endless list of why Austin is one of the greatest cities in the country. One of the best ways to describe Austin is by comparing it to New Orleans except it’s WAY CLEANER and super progressive compared to the rest of Texas. It’s the live music capital of the US and for good reason. There are tons of quality venues, bars, bands, DJs, etc that reside in the city. It’s also quite cheap and filled with tons of educated young people who attend The University of Texas.

Dave,
If you’re reading this. Thank you for what you have done for the electronic music community. I think I’m speaking on behalf of all your fans. We want another downtempo release (feel free to make it another surround sound album).

For more details visit the Cirque de L’amour FB event page.
Also if you plan on attending be sure to say Hi if you see me =)

If you need some convincing on why this man is one of the most talented.. Click this to stream one of the greatest pieces of music created in my opinion, Broken Soul Jamboree.

The Bloom | Festival Documentary Web Series

time December 13th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , , ,

A Journey Through Transformational Festivals is an online documentary web series that is being put together mainly about west coast music festivals. The four part series focuses around the festival community and events that took place over the summer of 2012.

The last post I made was about Electronic Awakening and covers the history and community that has evolved over the years. It seems like this webseries seems to be covering a lot of different topics as well but targets the festivals of 2012.

This year I’ve attended nearly 10 festivals across the States. I can’t tell others enough about my journey this year. The summer of 2012 will never be forgotten in my life. The adventures that I had this summer will forever impact who I am and who I will become. The trailer above is comprised of footage taken from Symbiosis 2012. Symbiosis 2009 I missed but made it a point to make sure that I attend this years event. Out of all the festivals I attended Symbiosis is the one gathering I’ll never ever stop talking about. There have been ideas running through my head about putting something together that I can show others to help showcase all these event.

A Journey Through Transformational Festivals will be released in four episodes over the course of 2013. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they put together. The first episode won’t be out till February 2013 but they recently put out a small video together titled The Bloom which can be found below.

The Bloom gives us a bit more insight into the different areas each video will concentrate on as well as a collection of festivals they were at. It’s great to see coverage of all these events as many people are completely aware of these events. The outdoor festival community is quite a unique tribe as it’s a completely different experience from traditional club/bar events. The attire, dance, food, personality, spirituality, music, etc is something that I believe everyone should experience. I hadn’t attending an outdoor camping event till Lightning in a Bottle 2009 and it changed my life forever. I had been to events like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra, and others but these events are so vastly different when it comes to these west coast festivals.

I can’t wait till February 7th, 2013 as it is the confirmed date for the first episode, The Peak Moments of Our Lives. Based on my personal accounts of this summer I know that the title seems quite fitting. Be on the look out for more information at The Bloom

EPISODE 1: “The Peak Moments Of Our Lives” (February 7th, 2013)
EPISODE 2: “The Parties Are Practice”
EPISODE 3: “A Sense Of Mythos & The Sacred”
EPISODE 4: “Reinhabiting The Village”

MiHKAL | SNUGLiFE Mix

time February 24th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , ,

I’m consistently who my favorite producers are on a regular basis. I can usually drop a few names quite quickly but if ever asked who is my favorite DJ… That’s easy, MiHKaL! MiHKaL put out a new mix called Snuglife and been rocking the hell out of it. His Symbiosis live set from 08 is still one of my all time mixes so this was a real treat. This post is long overdue and realized that the downloads ran out for the soundcloud widget. I figured this is the perfect time to host the mix on the server so you could download a copy =)

MiHKaL is one of the few DJs out there that I consider to have some of the best track selection. If there anyone that I’d say resembles a lot of what I play it’s him. Never bringing any of that super filthy stuff but a nice groove and sexy vibe in every track. I’m really hoping to catch one of his live sets this summer somewhere. I’ve heard nothing but great things about him also and seems like his live sets contain some of the freshest dubs from the elite Cali producers we’ve all come to love.

I’d usually make this a Fire Friday Mix but I had to post this. It’s just too good to not post once I saw the downloads ran out. Just want to say to MiHKaL personally that we might not know each other well and usually only write about homies but man seriously amazing job. What you are doing deserves more credit than you can imagine. It’s great to see someone consistently putting out mixes like this.

1. Rigzin & Knowa Knowone ~ Dedication
2. Telepopmusik ~ Breathe (MiMOSA Remix)
3. Phaeleh ~ Afterglow (Akira Kiteshi Remix)
4. Eastern Sun & Oscure ~ Third Eye High (R/D Remix)

Right now if anyone was to ask me what my favorite artist are it would be easy…
1) Ooah
