Subsynthesis.com and Glitchdrop.com, two of our fave blog friends, released their debut compilation album today, “Bass From Above.” The album features new and unreleased tracks from some of our favorite artists in the glitch/bass scene. In order to make the album as high quality as possible they recruited the professional mastering services of Bil Bless (Bless Records) who did a fantastic job in making the album sound full, vibrant and cohesive. Bass From Above is a must have for your collection. You can stream and download all of the tracks for free from Bass From Above BandCamp. PLEASE consider donating for the download, as all proceeds will be given directly to the Japanese Red Cross to support our disaster relief efforts there and to benefit those affected by the earthquake and tsunami throughout the Pacific. This is an extraordinarily charitable and generous cause and I hope everyone that enjoys the album will consider helping with the dire situation in Japan!

It’s super cool to know that even world DJ champions are big fans of our music blog. With 10 years DJing and 12 champion titles under his belt, this innovative scratcher and upcoming producer from Germany, DJ Unkut, is an inherent part of of the scene and a huge inspiration to DJs all over the world. I won a lil DJ battle myself this past week which I’m super stoked about, but I’m no where near as good as Unkut. He def gives me something to aspire for! Unkut put together this special glitch mix exclusively for our readers. Enjoy

We had a lot of great submissions to the website this week. Here are a few standout mixes for your listening pleasure this Fire Friday….
This first one comes from Dr. Knobz. It’s a nice mix of glitchop and dubstep and includes some of my faves out right now. He also wants you guys to know that him and Carly-D’s label, GruntWorthy, is going to be giving away a 20+ track compilation of free originals and remixes very soon.
Dr. Knobz – Nocturnum Mix
This next mix comes from Dirty Byrdz (Hexidecibel + Shiver) out of Seattle. They spent about 2 months getting the tracklist together for this one as well as waiting for tracks to come out or getting the ok from producers to use the unreleased ones. It includes a bunch of quality dubstep tracks and I think a found a few new faves in it.
Dirty Byrdz – Paper Chase
This next mix comes from DR. EW & JOHN BEAN who have been DJing in Philly for about 5 years now bringing heavy bass, dubstep, rap, hiphop and some thugstep to the scene. The mix is Terminator 2 inspired and has a lot of nice filth and thugstep in it. It was recorded live in Philly in December. Wish I had made it out to that show cause that’s close to my hometown. I started my day off with this one
The other day, I came across some tracks by Fractal Sky and was really impressed. I couldn’t stop listening to his latest track “Not Quite December” which sort of has a “Pretty Lights” feel to it. It’s def a nice tune to throw the headphones on for and chill but still wanna move. He uses hip hop samples nicely in his tracks too. I reached out to him to find out a little more about him so I could share it with you……
Fractal Sky is the latest project of producer/dj Aaron Spence out of Arkansas. In 2003, Aaron began experimenting with early 2000 breakbeat/trance production. He slowly started to grasp the raw low ends of analog synthesizers and super tight breaks and cuts. By 2006 He released his first track under the name “dj FL!P.” By 2009 his sounds evolved into the slower(bpm), super groovey, tight, emotional, and uplifting sound that he calls “Fractal Sky”.
Beginning in 2010 Fractal Sky moved his production to the LIVE stage. His goal is to create an art that touches people’s hearts and souls. He tries to blend many genres w/ a hiphop base, which he says is reflective of his life, so.. it’s all from the heart! He plans to release another CD this year, but isn’t sure when just yet. He’s currently working on plenty of fresh original beats and is booking some shows in his hometown Ft. Smith, Arkansas and is planning big shows and festivals and will have them booked as confirmations roll through. A current bigger show in the works is Feb 4th, 2011 @ Georges Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville arkansas w/ Vibesquad and Eliot Lipp.
He plans to compete in this year’s “Wakarusa Winter DJ Classic” where djs turn in mixes and production to be voted on in hopes of gaining a spot @ Wakarusa 2011. A huge goal for him in 2011 is to open up his live production more and book shows out of the midwest. Some of his musical influences include the many things going on in his life, friends, family, technology, festivals, art, and nature.

Hey, what’s up! It’s EA. I’m baaaaack! Got my new computer with a hard drive 5x larger than the last and ready to start downloading shit loads of muzak again. I’ve been trying to catch up on all the releases I’ve missed, the tons of emails in my inbox, facebook, soundcloud, etc… and for the 1st time ever I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed with the amount of good music being thrown at me. But that’s not a bad thing, trust me! I’ve been sifting through the tons of submissions we’ve gotten recently to afromonk and this Circuit Imprimé ep from the French duo Turnsteak is definitely a stand out. There’s some proper glitched out tunes on here that leave me wanting for more. There’s even a nice little remix of Ill-esha’s “Risky Rutabaga.” Best part of all is that they’ve put up the release for free.
Simplify Mix Sessions 4 is now up for FREE Download. Pressha, a DJ out of Seattle put this hot glitchhop mix together for Simplify Recordings and for you fine people. The track listing pretty much speaks for itself and Pressha mixes everything together so smoothly.
Minnesota is a dubstep/glitch producer out of Santa Cruz, California. I think that he understands something very important that a lot of other dubstep producers in the scene right now don’t. Yes, wobbles and heavy bass drops are fun and that’s why we love dubstep in the first place, but it’s important to keep the melody intact and have it be an actual song that people can vibe and/or dance to. Minnesota has some hot releases coming up that do just that.
His track “Space Mountain” is coming out on Gruntworthy on November 26th exclusively through Beatport which will also feature tracks from Stephen Jacobs, +verb, sugarpill, Dr. Knobz, Carly D, and Doug Surreal.
His track “Meow” will be released on Mal Label in early December on a compilation CD along with tracks by Mochipet, Blackheart, Skulltrane, Mycho Pan Cocoa, El Diablo, Helicopter Showdown and Getter. The compilation will be coming out exclusively on beatport.
And, you can pick up his EP which will be released in January through Tycho Records and will feature the fun glitch hop track, “One Love.”
In the mean time you can preview his tracks at soundcloud.com/minnesota, and while you’re at it grab this fun ODB remix he has up for free download.
Soundcloud.com has become my addiction as of late with their dashboard. Every time I log in, there’s fresh new tracks from producers I’m following in my inbox and I can see what they’re listening to, commenting on, and which tracks are their favorites too. I get wrapped up in this for hours every night, needing and wanting more and more. Here’s some solid ones I’ve come across this week. Enjoy and check back to Afromonk.com on the regular cause we find the good stuff!
