Gladkill | “Accolades” EP [Foundations Recordings]

time June 14th by Clear Shadow authorTags: , , , , , , , , ,

Gladkill releases “Accolades” under his newly found record label, Foundations Recordings, and is composed of 6 rich-filled future West Coast soundscapes spanning in multi-genre feels of bass music, R&B, hip hop, deep house, garage, & downtempo setting. After listening to “Acccolades” repeatedly, I can vouch that it’s fresh and has been created with limitless soul and intention which is made visible through its focus on melodic precision and intricate composition. Gladkill and co-founder, Sugarpill, launched their “Foundations Recordings” and its tour earlier this year in January with their debut launch party here in Austin, TX, a night which foresaw a promising future for the rest of the tour to follow. This marks “Foundations Recordings” first release, so stop whatever you’re doing, turn up your bass, and let it take you on a future chill wave journey.

Accolades is composed of 6 tracks: “Ether”, “Float Away”, “Velvet”, “Let U Go”, “Queens”, & “Accolades”.  ”Ether” is full of 808 elegance and reveals a theme of the album- synth heaven freshness and future bass escapades.  Snares kick off stardust particles into space.  Perfection.  Electrifying composition of intricate elements blend exquisitely together.  ”Float Away” is ignited through multiple pitches of 808′s and trigger pull in the beginning. “I can be I” and “My Love” r&b vocals stream across escapades of unique bass laser frequencies which hover symmetrically over breaks and clicks. “Velvet” continues the 808 rhythm with synth soundscapes that create a deeply felt chillttrap atmosphere. It has a mysteriously melodic vibe to it with its deep bass whomps sporadically illuminating space.

Let U Go” has a smooth harmonious structure and has a very sexy future soul vibe to it, especially with incorporation of r&b vocals fading in and out. Attention to detail is prime, and these vocals blend freshly with all other melodic elements. Future space bass and rhythms create a slow magic flow with synthesizer crescendos. “Queens” is so unique and chill, I really dig the xylophonic sounding key stokes blended with synthesizer eloquence. Clicks, breaks, and his silky signature sounds and bass interweaves beautifully and aligns intricately with celestial melodies. “Accolades” is a deep house design which is sure to rejuvenate you and teleport to the dance floor. Future soul crescendos will light up your third eye, and have you grooving away.

“The term “accolade” is defined as an award or privilege granted as a special acknowledgment of merit”, and Gladkill has just achieved this through mastery of his fresh futurebass release with a lot of depth and feels.  As he continues to develop signature silky sounds with focus on preciseness, he will continue to break through and lead soundscapes of the West Coast. These chill frequencies and amplitudes of mesmeric beats will enter your body and clear out and freshen you up.  It’s like these phonic travels I have experienced left me feeling balanced and clear.  If Edgar Allan Poe defines, in brief, “the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty”, then I define, in brief, Gladkill’s composition of sounds as the rhythmical creation of  Melodic Future Bass Music.

Gladkill | Beta

time September 28th by Taradactyl authorTags: , , , ,

Gladkill is on top of his game lately. Not only did he just release Perception, an EP of bangin remixes and a track on Gravitas Recordings’ Neurovation, but he also has an amazing EP coming up called Beta. I really enjoyed listening to this album; it just put me into a relaxed, peaceful state of mind. It is soothing, sparkling, and stunning. Most importantly it is interesting and has a lot of different textures all throughout. With sexy female vocals sprinkled thoughtfully throughout the EP, you’ll be lifted off into another dimension in listening to this album.  One thing that I love about Gladkill is that he stays true to his signature sultry sound, never deviating too far from that style. That’s commendable given that many, if not most artists have been selling out to the super heavy dubstep sound that, while the majority of the population might appreciate, us aficionados have grown beyond. He manages to stay true to himself and it pays off; he has a steady growing fan base.

It will be interesting to see the juxtaposition of Gladkill vs. Bassnectar on their tour together. Gladkill’s got this beautiful  effervescent sound while Bassnectar is all about the crowd-moving bangers. Not to say that Gladkill doesn’t get a crowd moving….. during his set at Lucidity everyone was getting way into it, and I think it was my favorite set of the weekend. It’s huge  for Boris to be on tour with Bassnectar, so I’m really glad for him!

Look out for Beta coming out on October 8th through all distributers. You won’t want to miss this!

Satellite Respond | I Can Be (Drake Refix) | Artist Spotlight

time June 12th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , ,

Satellite Respond is Boris aka Gladkill’s new downtempo project. I’ve been eagerly been anticipating this to debut for over a year now. Ever since I found his first work, AlphaOne, I’ve been begging him to return to more of the IDM downtempo style vs the more bass influenced stuff Gladkill has evolved into. Boris is one of those producers that from the moment I heard his music I wanted more and would do anything to help promote. Hell this new project Satellite Respond sounds exactly like the type of music I hope to create. The emotion and energy it creates is what I hope to hear every time I hit play on a new track.

Briefly talking to Boris about the project he said that there’s a lot more of this stuff and reason why he decided to branch off and start a new alias. I’m all for this sound and hope that we’ll get to hear more of this. I’m really excited to see where this project goes. It’s a good look for music right now. I’m hoping to find more music like this for Afro Monk Records. This week-end Gladkill will be playing at Impulse Festival in Georgia and hoping to hear more of this project at his set. Go and find Satellite Respond on Facebook as it’s where you’ll also hear more about this new alias.

Disciples of Headtron Vol 1

time December 26th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Disciples of Headtron is a compilation made up by some of the members of the Headtron Agency. The roster includes: Sugarpill, Gladkill, Chris B, +verb, Russ Liquid, Goldrush, Stephan Jacobs, Jobot & Jupit3r. This past week they have recently just added a new member to the family, Griz!

The collection of artist that make up this team is lead by Alex Becket one of the best agents in the business. Headtron has only been around for merely two years or more and they’ve made such an impact in such a small amount of time that I can only imagine how busy Alex has been. The entire roster in some sort of fashion have played some of the biggest festivals and events in 2011. There isn’t a major event that you can’t find at least one or two members representing the Headtron family.

This compilation is a prime example of why they are such a driving force in the EDM community. There are even a few surprises that caught me off guard, Swordfight! I’ve heard much talk about this over the course of time but here is their debut! Another surprise is to find more Jobot tunes, especially one that features ill-esha! =O It’s great to have something unified and put together and this is only the beginning as this is Volume 1. I’m looking forward to Vol 2 already which I hope features more from them in particular More Champagne & Griz.

My favorites you ask? Sugarpill stole this one from everyone in my opinion with A Gift To. There is no question that tune is perfect to open up the release. It’s one of those moving tracks that you can listen to in any state of emotion. Russ Liquid’s Pars Lunae also blew me away. Chris B stepped up his game big time and only look forward to see what he and Boris have been cooking up. Also do I need to bring up how I’ve been dying for Jobot’s debut album?!

All in all I can’t wait for 2012 because this is just the beginning and there’s a lot more where this came from. Also big ups to Muti Music and Dov for putting this out. Be sure to grab it on release date Jaunary 2nd, 2012! Be on the look out for any of the Headtron members this year. I’ve had the pleasure of booking many of them in Texas and man do they deliver <3

Much Love & Respect to the Headtron Family!

1. Sugarpill – A Gift To
2. Swordfight – We Will Never Know
3. jOBOT & ill-esha – Fossils
4. +verb – Mileage
5. Gladkill – Insomnia
6. Stephan Jacobs – Groove Around You
7. Jupit3r – Shark Bark
8. jOBOT – Bottle Of Bumpy
9. ChrisB – It’s All Good
10. Russ Liquid – Pars Lunae
11. Goldrush – Katura

More Champagne | TI – Poppin Bottles Remix

time December 5th by Taradactyl authorTags: , , , ,

I definitely want to pop some bottles while jamming to this new free More Champagne tune (New Years Eve, perhaps?)! If you haven’t heard of this collaboration, familiarize yourself. Close homies ChrisB. and Gladkill have teamed up to bring you this banger of a remix, Poppin Bottles by TI. I have known about the collab for quite a while and have been waiting to hear what they have in store for us – so far they did not disappoint. Burning Man attendees were lucky enough to catch More Champagne live, and now everyone has the opportunity to snag the outstanding bootleg that they remixed for BM.

At first I was slightly skeptical when I saw that the artist they chose to remix was TI – I tend to favor thought-provoking hip hop over top 40 artists. However, the production quality in itself is inspiring enough. The banger has nice texture; they incorporate the samples flawlessly and there’s a good balance of bouncy high notes and bass. I love the depth that they add around 1:05. I know that I’ll enjoy this track equally while chillin at home as while raging at a show. We can expect to hear much more material (an EP is in the works) from More Champagne in 2012, so stay tuned!

ill-esha | Elusive History & Reverie

time August 11th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , ,

ill-esha has become someone I dearly admire. I remember 3 years ago I was completely obsessed with her and dreamed of getting to meet her. My dream came true almost exactly a year ago when I brought her to Miami for my 25th birthday. It was between her and NastyNasty. As much as I love Jasper we wouldn’t have been able to have the time to hang out and Elysha was free the whole week-end, plus Jasper vs Elysha for a slip n slide party… LOL JK JK. I can say now that no matter what till my death bed I’ll be seeing/booking Elysha near my birthday. There aren’t words to describe how much she lived up to my expectations and more. I got the opportunity to spend a few days with her in Miami and enjoy beach life with her. Ever since then we have kept in touch and I’m always thrilled whenever we run into each other.

I’m proud to promote and push TWO of her most recent releases. Elusive History was put out first via Simplify Recordings and contains one of my favorite songs of 2011, Only Fair. I’ve been playing out the Gladkill version like no bodies business ever since I first heard it. Come on who wouldn’t fall in love with Elysha on vocals and Boris’ unique sullen sound. The next release just came out a few days ago, Reverie, which was released on Muti records! Reverie contains the epic track Pretty Banger which is self explanatory and an incredible track 33 and a Third with the talented MC Joey Mousepad!

I think you all get the point and should be familiar with ill-esha as I feature most of her work on here. Nothing but love to Elysha. I’m beyond excited to see her this upcoming week-end in Austin where she’ll be playing as well as Lorn! This will be the first time we’ll be officially playing together on the same bill =)

Gladkill | Lovelost EP

time June 2nd by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , ,

Gladkill, will always be a legend in my book. I’ll never forget when he first caught my ear when he entered The Glitch Mob contest. I was completely star struck once I spending more time checking out his work. I made it a mission of mine to push this guys sound like no other. I’ll never forget getting his short mix for his last release Ghostwork. I had just moved to Dallas that week-end and I must of listened to it 10x in a row. I played it to my good friend Gooddroid and she even was impressed considering she is one of the pickiest out there like myself.

Fast forward to todays world and I just was in California for Lightning in a Bottle where I got to see Boris aka Gladkill show the west coast bass scene how it’s done proper. It was his debut of his new release to a large crowd. It was a honor to see him received so well. Boris has become one of the closest people to me whether he sees it or not haha. He’s the one dude that I see walking around and can relate to the most. His attitude and take on this whole thing is one of the most humbling I’ve seen so far. He is one of people I always enjoy running into and just kicking while walking around and lightning up with whoever is around. It doesn’t hurt that his music and style is probably some of the best in my ears.

Boris has matured a lot in this EP since his last Ghostworks release. You can hear a deeper and more developed sound. The release flows smoothly with tones you are familiar with when it comes to Gladkill yet has a bit more depth and feel to it. I had the pleasure of hearing some of this while it was being finished up and wow you can really hear a difference in quality and improvement over the past couple months of following his music.

I can’t wait for you all to experience Lovelost! June 13th marks its official release on Made in Glitch. Also expect to see his remix of ill-esha’s Only Fair to appear as it instantly became an instant classic in my book after my first listen of it. Keep watch for Gladkill coming to a festival near you. He’s on fire right now melting hearts on stage at many of this years major events. Expect a mini mix of Lovelost to appear soon as it will be added here once I get it =)

Nothing but tons of respect and love for my good friend Boris.
Truly one of the great producers of our time.
I’m glad to call him a friend and have had opportunity to spend a good amount of time around him.

Bass Science | Slip N Slide

time April 24th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , ,

Bass Science is BACK!!! Just got e-mail from the talented and incredible human, Matt B. He is about to put out a brand new release on his label, Made in Glitch. Bass Science is his stage name where he rocks it with all original music for the most part. He brings such positive vibes every time I have spoken to him and seen him on stage. Not to mention I can’t thank him enough for the support he has always given me. He is one of those people I’m glad to call a friend and not just another artist. He puts real passion and feel in everything and always excited to talk and catch up. Truly a remarkable person in the industry.

Emissions Festival | May 13th – 15th 2011

time April 19th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Emissions 2011

Camp Questions Mark & Irie Cartel present EMISSIONS! It’s not very often I post about events on the site but ohh man this ONE is truly worth covering. Emissions is on it’s 3rd year and wow this years line up is mind blowing. This festival is approximately two hours outside of San Francisco. There will be camping at the beautiful location for all three days.

Now lets get straight to the punch, MUSIC! The line up for this festival is one of the diverse line ups I have seen compared to all the major festivals. Diversity doesn’t mean that there’s only some medium grade level headliners mixed in with some local talent. This truly means that some of the biggest names in all spectrum’s of bass music. It is still taking me back how I will be playing at this event as well. This will be the first time I’ll be in San Francisco and couldn’t have asked to play a better event for my first visit. I think the best part of this festival as well is the unity that will take place at this event. There are so many names on the line up that I’ve worked with directly, have booked myself, communicated on regular online, and/or close friends with already. This past year at SXSW it was a dream to be part of the crew that we were rolling around with and I feel this will be no different. At the end of the day we all are here to share the music but what makes this community so special is how closely networked and friendly everyone is. There so many people on here that are playing that I haven’t met in person and looking forward to finally giving a good amount of people some big hugs.  Can’t wait to kick it with all the homies out in Cali!

Now let’s list the two rounds of artist announced. I have bolded some of my recommendations for this. To be fair it’ll probably be quite bias to my personal taste and close friends of mine. Hey I was honest at least right?! Got to support the homies!
