Lazer Sword | Self Titled Debut Album 11/2/2010

time September 6th by Afro Monk authorTags: , , , , , ,

Lando Kal (Antaeus Roy) and Low Limit (Bryant Rutledge) are Lazer Sword! We’ve heard so much about their new upcoming album and here’s more. The album is a self titled release and due out November 2nd, 2010. The first single off the album is Batman and currently being distributed freely! Batman will be pressed to vinyl with a handful of remixes including one from Rustie! There’s no official release date on the Batman 12″ but should be on look out for it real soon.

If you haven’t heard of Lazer Sword you must be sleeping because they just did a big US tour together to show off some of their new material and man is it bumping. I had the pleasure of opening up for them here in Miami at the monthly dubstep event, Get Low! It was a honor to see them rock out live on their MPDs. They put on one hell of a show, no CDs there. Both of them work extremely well together and the sets flow seamlessly. There’s a special art when playing with someone else. They are pushing the bar and experimenting with many sounds blended together to make their own unique sound. I’m looking forward to rocking out crowds with their new material and spread the music to you all very soon! Big ups to you both and keep pushing the music out! It was a real honor to have played along side them.

Afro Monk has returned! Summer Mix!

time August 12th by Afro Monk authorTags: , , , , , , , ,

I’m back! Recently celebrated my 25th birthday in Vegas! I got to play at Defcon 18 and rage! The blog was upgraded to WordPress 3 and has big issues in the process. It’s not that there wasn’t news or new post for past two weeks, it’s that the site was broken. Just for the record if you use 1and1 and upgrade to 3.0 you need to increase the memory allocated to 20mb or else it crashes with 500 error.

Now that it’s back the redesign will be possible. I’m doing a mini tour over summer but hope to get it all sorted out to a new look.

Tonight I open up for Lazer Sword in Miami for monthly event, Get Low!

I’m looking for gigs in October! email me to arrange something!
Just recently recorded a summer promo mix!

Expect some new post and info to start back up on regular basis as before! Much love to all the fans and readers!

Ben Samples | Respiration

time July 29th by Afro Monk authorTags: , , , , , ,

Ben Samples is back again with a new release. This time it’s packed with 4 glitch hop club bangers. The first track Boss absolutely slays crowds. I’ll never forget how it went off when I dropped it at Get Low in Miami when I played it. The other tracks are serious pieces of work and also includes Nano Puppy the collab track with Stephan Jacobs.

Who know what we’ll hear from Samples next. He’s taken the glitch hop scene by storm and has an arsenal of new tracks ready to drop. One thing is for sure whatever this man touches you’ll hear some serious crunk bass to come along with it.

Much respect to my home Samples.
Looking forward to playing along side with him in NY in August!

Gooddroid is Miami Dubstep

time June 25th by Afro Monk authorTags: , , , , , , ,
Miami Dubsteps Queen, Gooddroid!

Miami Dubsteps Queen, Gooddroid!

This weeks Fire Friday Mix goes to the QUEEN of Miami Dubstep, Gooddroid.
She is the first to play Dubstep in Miami and begin the revolution of bass.
The amount of work that she puts into this scene is unheard of.

Many other players have entered the game from different roots but in the end this woman is the first one who dropped the deep dubstep sound. It’s an honor to be a partner of hers and call her one of my best friends. I’m going to say this right now and have no problem saying it… She deserves to be called the Queen, not a princess. You have no idea who she is if you call her a princess.

You can catch her spinning at almost every commercial dubstep event or at her bi-weekly events, Friction & DOWN. She is a maverick at what she does. She’ll drop the filthiest brostep grime at Friction or Get Low and then the next night drop serious minimal 2 step garage dubstep at DOWN. Hell you can even catch her playing hip-hop and tribal house all over the beach if you want. She has no limits.

If you ever get the chance to meet her thank her for everything she has done for the Miami Dubstep scene and what she continues to do. Now go check out one of her most recent mixes.

Machine Drum once a Florida resident comes back to show people what’s up with the funk, boogie, and dance grooves. Expect hella dope set from him that will leave you wanting more. It’s always a pleasure to see a live DJ with pads dropping live beats and samples over tracks. Be sure to check out his event he host in NY, cassettenyc!

I’m beyond excited to share a stage with such a prolific producer. Also on the bill is Romulo from Soul Oddity. I can’t wait to relive the set I caught during WMC. This man is a pioneer for electronic music in Miami. One of the founders of Schematic records which has put Miami on the map for many around the world. Pay your respects to this man because he has done a lot for the music scene here. He is one of the people I look up to and consider a role model of what I’m doing myself here in Miami.

Lets get this out here in the public. I promise to bring you some fresh new sounds. My motto of this site is “Keep it Fresh!” and that is what I plan to do this Thursday at Vagabond. The set I plan on dropping will have a heavy glitchy bass feel with popular tracks we all have heard remixed with some big drops. I’m calling this my Glitchy Bass Set. Majority of it will be dubstep but with an added glitch feel sprinkled with some Glitch Hop.

Be sure to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Gooddroid and Munkz!
Now for all the details of the event!

Miami Dubstep – Juan Basshead, Skream, Benga, Mala – WMC 2009 part 2

time September 17th by Afro Monk authorTags: , , , , , , , ,

Here are some mixes I’ve uploaded this week to help promote the DJs in Miami this week. I like to call this week WMC 2009 Part 2. The big boys are in town to bring the deep vibes to Miami again. Hope you enjoy these mixes as much as I have been.

juan basshead

Juan Basshead

This man is no stranger to the Miami electronic scene. In the early days he went under the alias Burn as a Drum & Bass DJ. He has taken this town by storm and put Miami on the map as one of the premier Dubstep cities in the States. Here is a clip of Mr.Basshead’s guest appearence on University of Miami’s radio station.

skream & benga Miami

Skream B2B Benga

You could easily have a strong arguement that Skream & Benga are the biggest names in Dubstep. These Croydon boys have taken Dubstep from it’s primal stage to it’s current state. They’ve been making beats since the early 2000′s. Skream recently celebrated his birthday and this is what came from it. An epic mix from the birthday boy himself and his right hand man.

mala

Mala

This man has made such an impact on dubstep that his label and group DMZ stand on it’s own level. Mala brings his own take to the music we call dubstep. A true pioneer in music. This mix is quite outdated but a favorite of mine due to what this man has to say about the culture. Call it an interview mix.
