Grassroots California is a small indie company that sells custom hats. They have been gaining popularity in the underground bass community as they have a strong presence at music festivals. If you’re into festivals such as Wakarusa, Nocturnal, Emissions, SXSW, WMC, etc… you’ve probably seen quite a few of these hats.
I’m a huge supporter of the company as they help bring light to many artist and sports teams. They are well known for spoof hats for many popular teams. They have a special music line that features big names like Pretty Lights, Lotus, Big Gigantic, Fresh2Death, and many more. I personally sport the Miami Dubphins hat. I’ll be adding quite a few to my collection in the near future and have even been in talks with them for special Afro Monk hat for 2012.
Be sure to check out their website that features not only hats but accessories, t-shirts, pins, and more. Also if you’re out at any of the music festivals you’ll probably see a vending booth. Be sure to know your hat size before you head over there. I promise you that you’ll be wanting to buy at least a few and chances are they might be limited to a certain size since they’ve been gaining such popularity.
Also be on the look out for the possibility of a Grassroots record label…
Much respect and love goes out to the Grassroots California crew!
Colorado rockstars Big Gigantic & Ben Samples team up on an epic glitch-hop remix of Wiz Khalifa’s Black & Yellow. This track is probably one of the best examples of glitch-hop in my book. The next person who ask me to show them a track that shows what the genre is about it’s going to be this. I know this track will be a prime example of what it’s about when I load this into my set and smash some efx on top of it and crush the crowd. That to me is glitch-hop. A perfect blend of hip-hop/crunk, banging bass, glitched up beats, and live elements.
Massive respect to the duo Big Gigantic and Samples on this one. It’s absolutely massive and easily one of the anthems for awhile. I can see this being used quite often by many in the community.
Ben Samples is back! Again?! Yup a full release is out December 6th. I’m proud to announce this on here. I’ve been lucky enough to get to hang with Mr. Samples a few times. This guy is a pro. Proud to say that too. He’s one hell of a guy and always an adventure with him. I can go on and on about this guy and probably shouldn’t so we don’t have crazy things getting out there. It was a honor to be asked to write the newsletter release for this. Trust me I can only imagine the arsenal he’s built in his collection if this one is coming out now! Check it out and be sure to grab this when it comes out.
Ben Samples is one of the staple names dropped when throwing around names in the glitch-hop and midtempo genre of music. His unique sound design and bass lines have such a distinct sound that he has helped evolve the direction of where the music is today. Samples has matured his sound over recent years and help his local area of Denver/Boulder Colorado become one of the Mecca’s for bass music. His duo act with Greg Fisk, Fresh2Death, has toured all over the States and considered one of the best live shows around featuring live remixes. His energy, skill, and talent is unmatched when he steps behind the controls, it’s truly a performance more than anything.
Chose You Own Adventure is Samples new album released by Made in Glitch. The title is based on choose-your-own adventure children’s book series that became popular in 80s and 90s where you chose your own destiny. This 15 track release is just that, an adventure into the mind and world of a legendary bass warrior battling through the life of a rockstar. The album has chapters that bring a familiar nostalgic feel and others that take us on entirely new trip into new dimensions. You will never know what is around the corner but it’s one hell of a ride. Throw the album on shuffle and see how long you survive.
May 18th, 2010 will be the day I believe Ben Samples will begin his Legendary status. Samples is one half (Fisk the other half) of the live remix project Fresh2Death/Girlfriend Bullshit that is based out of Boulder, CO.
Samples is on top of the game and is ready to explode. He is a prolific crunk glitch-hop producer. He brings it hard with his bass-heavy remixes of your favorite club anthems. Ben started his DJ career in 2006 when he picked up a weekly variety radio show for CU Boulder’s KVCU. He played many styles and genres, with a focus on dance music and hip hop. At the end of the day if anyone ask me what is glitch-hop or what does glitch-hop sounds like I point them in the direction of Mr.Ben Samples.
Samples is a member of the Denver Bass Squad, which is the essential crew that runs the bass scene in the Denver/Boulder area. It is worth mentioning that DBS will be a crew you will all know about soon… Spectre, Fisk, and Samples have been on a rampage releasing serious bombs! Don’t be surprised when you see the top selling tracks on there all from DBS members on the Additech charts.
Pick up the new EP put out by Mochipet’s label Daly City! It’s on pre-release here & check out Samples mini-mix of the EP!
Greg Fisk, one of the DONs of Boulder, CO!
Back again with another gangsta mix done live at Mohawk!
This man is beyond Fresh 2 Death! Hearing this mix gets me fired up and glad to be part of this community with so much dope stuff poppin off and glad to see at the talent is blowing up! Can’t imagine how crazy it’ll get if I do end up moving out to Boulder. Big up to the whole Denver Bass Squadron!
Greg Fisk, is clearly a force to be reckoned with. You may know him by being 1/2 of Fresh2Death aka Girlfriend Bullshit. He resides right now in Colorado the mecca for Glitch Hop. He put out an EP earlier in 2009 and is back for some more with this new mix, Puzzle Pieces.
I had the pleasure of getting to know him and jam out with him quite a bit during WMC this year. This guy has to be one of the realest and straight up guys I’ve met so far in this endeavor of music. Don’t sleep on this guy because I promise you Ben Samples and Greg Fisk are on the way to the top of the game and their duo will always be remembered when you speak of glitch hop.
Check out this free mix on Fisk’s bandcamp!
Also look out for Samples new EP, Snowstorm, to drop some serious bombs!
