Reuben Garst is S.P.E.C.T.R.E! This man is a hidden superstar. I had the pleasure of getting to book him for my first event ever at WMC this year. This guy is the real deal people. A member of Denver Bass Squadron (DBS) & Founder of Basslab. This man does it all from production, DJ, promoter, and one BMF.
This release is straight heat!
I’ve been waiting for this to come out for awhile. Ever since I heard VIP Bass ft. Ben Samples appear on Soundcloud I knew that Spectre had to be part of the event I was planning.
He absolutely tore it up at Slippery! I’ll never forget that mash up of Joker vs Biggie he dropped that night. Not only is this man a dope DJ and producer he’s a great human being. He spit some serious knowledge and tips on everything. Without a doubt I’m glad I had the chance to meet him and become friendly with him.
Best of luck to him, he definitely bust his ass for the community!
Be sure to pick up the release over at Addictech!

I’m feeling that I just repet myself when it comes to releases from Muti Music, stating that they are the awesome and so one… But that what I feel. Muti might be the label out there with the highest standard when it comes to releases, even though Dov seems to spit out release they are all still truly excellent.
The latest in line in a full length album from two persons that goes under the monickers Mad Zach & R2 The Specialist. These guy stands on a base of Dubstep but mixes it up quite a lot; you get influences ranging from Techno to Glitch (hop) and you get some funky vibes all executed with perfection. First listen to the track “Big D” here below and then you make sure you buy it!
Miami Glitch presents the return of Slippery! We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our WMC event, Slippery. We’ve teamed up with the crew who does DOWN at Club Cinema for a monthly event!
DOWN was a weekly event on Sundays at Cinema but officially switches to every Friday now. They will remain downstairs bringing you the best in Dubstep. Every last Friday of the month Slippery will be taking over the upstairs area for some banging Glitch Hop, IDM, and BASS!
April 30th 2010 marks the beginning of all these upcoming changes.
DOWN will be bringing in Richie August from Chicago. He has been doing some big things and has teamed up with Claw to form Hulk. It will be a special treat for Miami. The full line up downstairs includes: Richie August, Gooddroid, The Reazin, Grey Ghost, Ashworth, Chuck Nasty, Somejerk, & Bunnyfuzz.
Slippery will be treating Miami with a Dub Hop duo residing in Phoenix, Protohype. Protohype brings a sound that mixes typical dubstep with some glitchy crunk hop hop beats. They will not disappoint! Mr. Feathers will also be doing a special set for the night. He is excited to take up the challenge of doing Glitch Hop something he has never played before. The full line up includes: Protohype, Mr.Feathers, Afro Monk, Claro, The Munkz, El Topo, and C85.
Upstairs will also feature live art from Miami’s own Kazilla! She has been causing quite a stir with her lovely painting skills. Don’t miss out on this special event!
Hopefully this will mark a special time where Miami will have a new restructured weekly spot to check out all sorts of fresh new bass music. When Slippery isn’t upstairs doing the glitch-hop stuff Miami Glitch will also be running a unique lounge night. We hope to bring you a chill laid back groove while we play some hip hop, trip-hop, downtempo, and many artist from the infamous Ninjatune label. Our mission is to bring something new and different. Starting a lounge trip-hop night has always been a goal of mine and hope we can bring you a fresh new weekly hang out spot.
Here is a short 10min mini mix put together by Claro to show you all what type of sound you can expect to hear at the event!
Subvert is Jeremy Bridge and he rages!
Today is the release of his latest work Party Alarm!
Subvert, located in Alberta, Canada, has had many big releases put out on Rottun Records, Punch Out, and Muti. The newest addition is basstastic. Tracks like Wiggle and Party Alarm are sure to have crowds bumping to the groove with samples that will remind everyone of the old school track ‘wiggle with it’.
“Sound the alarm and get ready to light dance floors on fire! With his infusion of dubstep into mid tempo crunk madness the bass lines will tear you apart and leave everyone begging for more.”
Subvert is a many of many talents. He co-runs pK a company offers event services, sound engineering, and whole bunch of other services. He also is a global moderator for the infamous Glitch Hop Forum.
Greg Fisk, is clearly a force to be reckoned with. You may know him by being 1/2 of Fresh2Death aka Girlfriend Bullshit. He resides right now in Colorado the mecca for Glitch Hop. He put out an EP earlier in 2009 and is back for some more with this new mix, Puzzle Pieces.
I had the pleasure of getting to know him and jam out with him quite a bit during WMC this year. This guy has to be one of the realest and straight up guys I’ve met so far in this endeavor of music. Don’t sleep on this guy because I promise you Ben Samples and Greg Fisk are on the way to the top of the game and their duo will always be remembered when you speak of glitch hop.
Check out this free mix on Fisk’s bandcamp!
Also look out for Samples new EP, Snowstorm, to drop some serious bombs!
How did I totally overlook this release!?
My favorite producer, Ooah, recently released a new EP about a month ago.
Not till today while jamming out to Sugarpills show on Glitch.fm did I realize I slept on this one.
I immediately had to come on here and write about it!
Here is a preview of the two tracks on this EP.
You can find it on iTunes to purchase =)
Protohype is Sean Farrell and Max Pote. They hooked up in 2009 to create this insane bass duo while meeting in Phoenix, AZ. The two instantly got along in the studio when linked up for their first track. It eventually evolved into multiple tracks and even an album in two weeks. Their talent is not individual. Their music is a blend of bass heavy dubstep mixed with the ill sounds of hip hop. They have acquired a total of 12 years of production together. Max and Sean have a promising future in the music industry. Two different personalities from polar-opposite backgrounds, with two different lifestyles. What makes them unique is their uncontrollable infatuation with noise. Music is not only their passion; it is their way of life.
After releasing their first album, The Protohype, they switched up their sound and moved their production directly into a new form of Dub Step, which they refer to as Dub Hop. Protohype is now about to drop their second EP, Filthy; which is promised to deliver trunk rattling bass mashed up with dirty vocals and head nodding drums.
I was lucky enough to get a message from them to check out their sound. I instantly fell for the sounds these guys were producing. It was something entirely new. It wasn’t glitch hop and it wasn’t dubstep. It’s as if they had blended the two together and created something so familiar yet so new. You could clearly hear the hip hop influences in the samples they would use and hear the IDM/Dubstep/Glitch feel to the beat as I spent the day enjoying their tunes.
These guys are on the rise and will soon be coming to a town near you!
Check out some of their tunes on their myspace!
I recently was contacted by one of the talented members of Splatinum, Andrew Luck. They had some big news to announce! Most of all of you have heard the killer remix Mochipet did for them. Now they are releasing a full length with all remixes by some of the biggest names in the game right now!!! 4/20 is the official release of WE ARE SPLATINUM, 9 track digital release on Daly City Records. They will also put a physical release on Daly City Records, Der Schplatzl 2010. It’s a 16 track compact disc which 7 tracks are unavailable digitally.
It is an honor to have them reach out to me and give me a preview of the remix album. I’ve hand selected one of the tracks from the release to be featured here on afromonk.com to be downloaded for FREE! It was quite a difficult task to pick one out of so many powerful tracks. My final choice was Meat off the Bone (The New Law Remix). Out of all the tracks it had the glitchest vibe and solid bass lines that will have anyone moving to the beat.
I’m not too familiar with The New Law but I dug up some info. They are a downtempo and instrument hip hop duo from Seattle, rising quickly in popularity. Their live show features heart stopping bass and improvisational sequencing accompanied by live keyboard and saxamaphone. It’s great to see such a big collaboration between Splatinum and The New Law. It’s a perfect blend for the new waves of Glitch Hop.
There will be a special release party for Splatinum’s work in Seattle, WA. The event is FREE!!! It’s an outdoor release party in the middle of downtown Seattle called the Intergalactic Masquerade Dance Party on April 20th, from 6-9PM. Splatinum will be playing and so will Knowa KnowOne, Michael Manahan, and Gel Sol. Be sure to check out more info at Splatinum’s site!
