Krooked Drivers headlined “The Thing”, a Wednesday Weekly at Empire Control Room, Presented by Scoremore Shows here in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, July 30th, and it was fresh vibes all around.  Steaming hot from Denver, Colorado, Krooked Drivers, which consists of members Donnie Dalbora and Maddy O’neil, entered the electronic music scene in 2011 and have been gaining a constant momentum ever since.  This dynamic Electronic/Hip Hop duo bring the sounds of the past to the present moment by sampling vinyl, while blending their own creation of soulful melodies, ultimately creating a new-found experience, a blast from the past.  Deep bass lines, mind-twisting drum patterns, sampling, re-imagining, and mixing is all part of their own unique style in variation.  With having their first EP release, Somewhere In Between, in April 2013 which featured their popular single “Only For You”, they release a second album, Right Beneath Your Feet later that same year in November with Austin, TX- based label Gravitas Recordings. Earlier this Summer, in May[2014], they released a  half-hour, all original beat-tape entitled Here and Now, and their first full-length LP is set to be released this coming September on Super Best Records.

Krooked Drivers [Donnie Dalbora & Maddie O’neil]

I was very excited for this evening as this was my first time catching one of their live sets, they were pretty stoked on their first show in Austin as well, a conversation sparked through creative flame.  The air was lively that Wednesday evening at Empire Control Room, which featured an outdoor setting with visible live painters/artists such as Jason Smith, aka: Bild, Chops, aka: Wanderweird, and Zander Lampkin.  Supporting artists included Brede and Blunt Force, both local Austin favorites.  Jesse Brede, founder of Gravitas Recordings, opened up the night with a fresh Dj set, which consisted of showcasing bass-fueled tracks by Gravitas artists and like-minded musicians, a unique exposure in the most authentic originality.  Soon after, Blunt Force grooved on next and played a future funk PA set which kept the crowd lively and groovy.  Incorporating a live electric guitar during his set definitely added to the live experience in multiple instances.  Krooked Drivers set up on stage next and they performed a dynamic live set, their energetic and fresh presence took me on another level, while their signature style always followed through.

Bild Art [Jason Smith] Live Painting at “The Thing”

Jason Smith, aka: Bild [Bild Art], is not only one of the most active visual artists in the art community here in Austin, TX, but he is also active throughout festival season, some recent presence as a featured artist include: Art Outside ’13, and 2014 Summer festivals include Euphoria Festival , Sonic Bloom, Arise Music Festival, and approaching festivals include The Great North and Art Outside 2014 on October 24th – 27th.  A self entitled Unorthodoxian Geometrist, Bild’s prime creative endeavors consist of massive structure building, creating art by building whatever sparks his imagination, and uses wood and paint to make it reality.  His paintings consist of sacred geometrical shapes and alignments, giving 3 dimensional feel and otherworldly beings and figures can also be visible.  When not live painting weekly or on a daily basis, you can find Jason adventuring around town and the spontaneity that comes along with it.

Bild’s Painting [In Progress] at “The Thing”

Jason has an otherworldly signature style in his paintings, as every artist has their own unique creative look and feel.  An atmospheric psychedelic realm is visible, a circulation of geometrical alignments and cube shapes with thick yet light energy radiating around.

Zander uses aerosol/acrylic on canvas to create a psychedelic space-adventure, a journey through time-travel is revealed, an entrance into another realm, far beyond time and existence.  Vibrant colorations blend well with obscure surroundings giving it a 3-D effect.
