Speaker Humpin Remixes | Subvert

time September 28th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , , , ,

Speaker Humpin is one of the biggest tracks of the year from producer Subvert. He’s band together some of the biggest names in bass music to create multiple remixes. The allstar line up includes Samples, ill-esha, Opiuo, Glitchy & Scratchy, Knight Riderz, Dov & Funk Monsta, & Mark Instinct. Every single one of these tracks has its unique take on the original.

Without a doubt this is one of the best remix packs of the year and some of the best people not only producers are on this one. I can’t tell you enough how much each of these tracks drop. You’re going to have to pick them up and see for yourself how the crowd eats them up. I’m paticularlly fond of the Samples and ill-esha takes. ill-esha’s has a MC ontop of the beat which adds some new flow to the track. Samples of course has that signature bass driven beat that I can’t get enough of.

1. Speaker Humpin (Samples Warp Reece Mix) 4:16
2. Speaker Humpin (Mark Instinct Remix) 5:06
3. Speaker Humpin (Opiuo Remix) 5:27
4. Speaker Humpin (Ill-Esha Remix feat. MC Think Tank) 5:02
5. Speaker Humpin (Knight Riderz Remix) 4:38
6. Speaker Humpin (Glitchy & Scratchy Remix) 4:53
7. Speaker Humpin (Dov & Funk Monsta Remix) 4:10

Be sure to pick up the release here: Speaker Humpin Remixes

Kastle | Essential Mix | Artist Spotlight

time September 24th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , ,

This weeks Fire Friday Mix comes from Kastle aka B. Rich! I was recently asked what I’ve been listening to as of late and def has been Kastle. I’ve been rocking some of his tunes for quite awhile now. It was totally a surprise when recently found out this past week that Kastle was actually B. Rich. I had the pleasure of hanging out with B. Rich for sometime when he played here at the local Get Low event. He was a real chill dude and hooked it up with some stickers for his label Party Like Us! Much respect goes out to him on this mix. This mix came out in early 2010 but damn does it still hold to the test of time.

Kastle Essential Mix Tracklist

02. Kastle – You Got The Love
03. Two Fresh – Whatcha Hangin Round Here For ft. Vince Harder & DOME (Kastle Remix)
04. Kanye West – Coldest Winter (Kastle Remix)
05. Kastle – Better Off Alone
06. Cassie – Me & U (Kastle Remix)
07. Kastle & Virus Syndicate – Need U

11. Cosmic Revenge – Late Nights (Kastle Remix)
12. Blu Mar Ten – Nobody Here (Kastle Remix)
13. Kastle – Meu Amor
14. Kastle – Walking Away ft. Armanni Reign & Domonique

The future looks bright for Mr. Kastle. He recently put up a new mix for July which I’ve linked to below. He also has just posted a new remix this past week. His choice this time was Brandy’s I Wanna Be Down. Kastle also has an upcoming EP from the looks of it after posting a new track with fourth coming EP preview in the title.

Decibel Festival 7 Seattle 2010 | Afro Monk’s Picks!

time September 22nd by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , , ,

Decibel Festival 7

Decibel Festival is upon us today! I’ve put together my personal picks and where I hope to make it too this week. Unfortunately I won’t be getting into Seattle till Thursday night. After the Flying Lotus showcase was announced I had to buy an entirely new ticket since I was previously arriving on Friday night. I’m beyond words excited for the next couple of days! It’ll be my first time going to Decibel and Seattle. I met many Seattle residents when out to California for Lightning in a Bottle and can’t wait to link up with familiar faces across the States. The amount of talent in this festival will take you back. I see myself running around Seattle trying to catch as much as possible. Friday night is going to be complete madness!!!

I want to personally thank my buddy Pressha! He’ll be hosting me at his house. Much love to you for that and had to mention that since it’s a big deal to me. Thank you! Also much love out to Shilo from DanceFever5000, I know you put a list of events you chose and hope they are not the same exact one but do at the sametime, LOL. Big up to Bass Drop crew and all those out who are  in Seattle who made Decibel possible.

Ron Winter | Drum Kit

time September 21st by John-Michael authorTags: , , ,

Ron Winter’s keyboard Drum Kit

I was browsing my news feed on Facebook and randomly came across a friend posting a link to this. It’s tons of fun and can create some fresh stuff. Not going to lie I spent a good 10min making a mini tune. I should of recorded it =\ Ron Winter is director and does many other things. The one thing that you might hold praise for him is that he directed one of Devendra Banharts videos, Baby.

Mt Eden Dubstep | MEDS EP

time September 20th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , , ,

Mt Eden Dubstep / DnB the duo from New Zealand are prepping some new goodness for us all! I just received an e-mail late last night that they have been hard at work on a new release due out December 1st, 2010. The new release is called MEDS. The best part of this release is that they are giving it away for FREE!

Yup Mt Eden Dubstep’s next release will be completely free. They’ve gained tremendous amounts of popularity in the past two years when they first came together in 2008. They thank everyone who has supported them and sure they decided to do this for the amount of success they’ve had. They’ve reached out to the audience and bloggers and have come up with a hypothetical way of releasing this new EP so far. They will be starting their own blog in October and put out one of the tracks out each Monday. There’s a total of 8 tracks so each week they will release a fresh new tune.

Expect new tunes from Mt. Eden the first Monday of this upcoming month!

UPDATE: The album is out and you can download it for FREE. Expect an interview with them soon.

Mary Anne Hobbs | Burial & Kode9 Mix | Radio1 Finale

time September 17th by John-Michael authorTags: , , ,

This Friday it’s going to be a Special Fire Friday Mix. This week it comes from none other than Burial & Kode9. This mix was for Mary Anne Hobbs final Experimental show on BBC Radio One. It’s sad to see such an influential host leave the air waves. She was an inspiration to me and one of the first times I heard propa dubstep was her special Dub Wars show.

Mary Anne Hobbs has done so much for music that it baffles me. Going through the list of artist she has featured on the show is breathe taking. You can easily get every album of all the producers and bands she’s had on the show and pretty much call it the greatest collection of music. Much love to you Mary and see yah out in Seattle!

Now for a serious lesson by some of the original pioneers…

Dibiase | Machines Hate Me

time September 14th by John-Michael authorTags: , , , ,

Dibiase’s debut full album, Machines Hate Me, is finally out! This has been one of the most anticipated albums for me this year. Towards the beginning of the year all I kept hearing about was Dibiase and all the amazing artists on Alpha Pup’s releases. Alpha Pup has not disappointed once and this one is no different. Dibiase’s sound is unique yet so familiar. Expect old school 8-bit sounds meshed with glitchy bass beats and over all positive energy.  It’s producers like Dibiase that get me excited because they are only pushing the bar further and further ahead.

I’m proud to see another LA producer emerge out into the world. All these brilliant artist have so much to share and give it seems that every day I question why I haven’t dropped everything and left to California. Much respect out to Dibiase for putting out a masterpiece and much love to Alpha Pup for providing the world with quality music that might of never been given a chance else where.

Dibiase – Machines Hate Me

1. Eternia
2. Phantom Power
3. Dusty Lungz
4. Atombreakin
5. Lumberjack
6. Neighborhood Watch
7. Skullcrack
8. Circuit Breakin
9. Clocked Out
10. Dubwreck
11. Price Is Righteous
12. Life Force
13. 3 Way Mirrors
14. Renegade Slap (Devonwho Collab)
15. Abstract

Enjoy the video for Skullcrack and get a small taste of what’s inside this beautiful 8-bit / chiptune masterpiece of an albums.
